(Gr)Attitude; Day Twenty-Two
12:34:00 AM
Today I was able to work on my own house a bit after a week and a half of pretty much letting it do whatever the heck it was going to do. This meant no laundry was done, dishes were pilling up, and my ever favorite, a stank bathroom. Luckily it was Mitch's day off so we were able to make a dent in the mess.
After all of that cleaning, I went to work at my new job and took along a book Mitch and I received for our wedding but had never cracked open. Work was extremely slow so I was able to actually pay attention to what I read.
The Book of Virtues by William J. Bennett is apparently a collection of tales, poems, and stories that teach children (and families) how to behave and have good moral character. Some of my more favorite parts of the book were the authors inserts as to why stories were important, or funny titles, such as;
"Rebecca, who slammed doors for fun and perished miserably."
or
"Jim, who ran away from his nurse, and was eaten by a Lion."
I am thankful for the reprieve of a quick laugh after taking endless phone calls.
I am also grateful that Mitch and I were able to drive to my parents house tonight with plans on staying over and taking care of some business and shopping (Christmas shopping!). I am thankful we were able to travel safe. I am also grateful that we have enough money and good fortune that we can buy each other gifts and be able to "afford" Christmas and our One-Year Anniversary just two weeks apart.
I am especially grateful that we live so close to our families. I never thought I would want to visit home once I had 'left that place' but now I can't get enough of it! I'm also grateful for shifts in paradigms (;
