Last night my sweetheart of a husband not only sawed down two trees, but carried them, dragged them, and hauled them down a mountain, but he also took the time to help my parents set up their tree. When we got home last night, I gave him a breather and we both just went to bed. But this morning I was up at the crack of dawn and my tree was going to be put up that instant! My mother had bought us a beautiful Poinsettia to thank us for getting them a tree and I wanted to put my entire house on full-blast Christmas.
My husband yet again is amazing and got up to get our tree put together. He sawed off some branches that hung too low as well as set it in our tree stand all by himself.
Together we hung up the Christmas lights and started putting on our tinsel and garland.
Mitch was being just as meticulous as I was and it's sad to say, but those few steps alone took us almost an hour and a half! We also vacuumed after every step to save our precious college-student vacuum from dying.
I have work today at 3:00pm and Mitch had a Thanksgiving dinner with his aunt's family today so we had the entire tree put together to this point by 12:00 when Mitch had to leave. Sadly, we hadn't put any bulbs on but Mitch told me to leave him a few and to do the rest of the tree.
I didn't want to create our first Christmas tree without him, but I also didn't want to have a half-finished tree that just sat in our living room for another 3 days before we had the time to be together and do it.
This was the first ornament I put on our tree. We got it from my Mother-in-law for my Bridal shower. It's one of my favorite gifts we received, especially when I have been obsessed with Christmas for the past few months.
We also put our cake topper on our tree. I figured since we didn't really have anything else to do with it, why not! I actually love that little detail. We haven't found a star yet that isn't made out of cheap, scratching plastic so we made our cake topper our temporary star. Not very symbolic of Christ, but a nice reminder of our wedding!
I finished putting most of the decorations on and left a few for Mitch, and now I'm leaving for work. But before I do, I wanted to end my Month of Gratitude.
Today, I am grateful for a wonderful husband, my health, and my home. I am grateful for my family and for the important part they play in my life. I am so glad I can look back on this past month and remember all of the wonderful things I was able to do with them.
I am grateful for this upcoming season, for my "first" Christmas with my husband, and for the spirit that comes along with it.
I am so extremely thankful for my Savior, for my religion, and for the wonderful friendships and memories that I have made over the past few months.
I am so grateful for my Temple marriage, for my sweetheart, and for the opportunity we have to be our own little family unit. I am so excited for that opportunity when it does come!
I am so extremely blessed that I cannot even list everything that I am grateful for, but I do know one thing, I am looking forward to paying it all back this Christmas season by serving my wonderful family, friends, and acquaintances.
Happy Holidays!
