So I sometimes get these crazy ideas that my friend Crystal and I should host parties... every month.
For the month of September we decided to do a cake decorating party because who doesn't like cake?!
We had a great group of people come and it was a blast to see what everyone did with their cakes! I especially enjoyed the opportunity for smack talk and milk chugging.
Caleb and Crystal Whitworth decorated a homemade chocolate zucchini cake with homemade buttercream frosting! It was absolutely delicious so it's no coincidence that they won Tastiest Cake!
They did win The Charlie Brown Tree cake, which shocked just about everyone (trust me, wait until you see my cake), but at least they got Swedish Fish and Whoppers!
Tiffany and Garrett made a beautiful cake with fondant. I'm so jealous of her skills! She of course won Best Cake and Tallest Cake. Crystal and I knew going into this that Tiffany would win the best overall cake but we were not aware that she was this talented! It was a delicious cake too. I need to have her give me cake decorating lessons.
The picture of them holding up their awards were way too blurry and I didn't want them to think I was a creep who takes millions of pictures... which I am.
Tyrell and Whitney shocked everyone with their amazing cake decorating skills! They seriously came prepared for some tough competition and it's no wonder they won Most Creative and Best Design. I was completely impressed by Tyrell's determination to make the best cake especially since the rest of the men were taking a back seat.
Wait for it...
Wait for it.........
I present the ugliest cake ever!
Last but not least, Mitch and I made a horrible cake. It was so ugly and crumbly and the frosting wasn't helping! I made a Red Velvet cake that I totally thought would put us over the top but I forgot to take it out of the pan and it got stuck. In the process of trying to "un-stick" the cakes from the pans we tore them to pieces but the show still goes on. Our design was the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which you can sort of tell was our intent. It was supposed to be the four turtle busts in the "ooze". Either way, we won Best Effort and Best Theme!
I should probably pick a party theme that I can actually be good at / win.
Either way, the night ended with a whole bunch of cake and some Smash Bros (which I'm not too good at either)!
I'm thinking October's party will definitely have to top this bad boy. Not only because it just so happens to be my favorite Holiday BUT because everyone throws a Halloween Party and I am too competitive. My only concerns are if people will actually dress up and/or participate, especially when my ideas can be a bit... over the top.
I'm thinking pumpkins... and chili... and lots of costumes. No dancing, dancing for adults with kids is pretty lame and this isn't high school anymore. BUT I am definitely going to be searching on pinterest for some lovely Halloween/Harvest ideas (and a great couples costume)!
