Throwback Thursday: Sleeping with the Fishes
7:03:00 PM15 years ago to this day, I was on vacation with my family in northern Idaho. This was during the era of my dad being absolutely and irrevocably in love with the water, so let's be real: this was a pretty big deal. He spent a good portion of our trip telling us what we were looking at, what the captain was doing, how the boat worked, anything and everything his little sailor-heart-in-the-making could think of.
The only things I remember from this trip is that my sisters and I each got to steer the ship, which we thought was pretty spectacular - I'm absolutely positive that I was such a "Hermione Granger" version of proud of myself. When you're 8, steering a ship is a pretty amazing thing, ladies and gents.
The only other part I remember was when we were getting off of the ship, we noticed a sign in the water that basically said, "Trespass and you'll be sleeping with the fishes." This only panicked little 8 year old me slightly... enough that I still remember it 15 years later.
Ah, family vacations. Who knew that sometimes you could be scarred from certain events almost two decades later.
Happy September!
