Student Teaching

I started student teaching last week, which has honestly been the most exhausting week of my life! I am teaching 6th graders and while that in and of itself is a challenge, I'm also teaching a unit on Canada as part of a Western Hemisphere tri. Here's first day me, feeling so super cute and ready to take on the world! No caffeine-induced all-nighters. No super, terrible horrible sicknesses. Just pure excitement!
And here I am after my first day! Tired, sweaty, a little disheveled after experiencing my first after-school meeting. Ah, the blessings of teaching.
My second week into student teaching brought about a lot of things. Firstly, Spirit Week, which you know I killed at. Here I am all dressed up and ready to go for Decades Day! The purple jumpsuit has made a comeback, and let's just be honest with ourselves, if there was anything in my closet that should reappear time and time again, it's this bad boy.
My second week of student teaching, while absolutely fabulous, brought about a little treat I didn't even know existed. Apparently when you go from only talking a little bit during the day, and mostly to a single one-year-old, to all of a sudden trying to get the attention of 30 twelve-year-olds, you exhaust your voice. A lot. And when this happens, you get these micro-tears in your throat. And that wouldn't be all that terrible, except for the fact that you still have to eat. And with eating, comes acidity and bacteria that then get into your little micro-tears and create canker sores and cold sores and all other types of terrible sores up and down your esophagus. So for my second week of student teaching, I've not been able to swallow, I've gagged on my little cankersored uvula, and I've cried from pain more times that I can count.
Spirit week also brought about Disney Day! My friend, Claire, must be incredibly smart and beautiful because she was totally on top of it (; We both came dressed as Mary Poppins! I'm shocked at the amount of students that didn't know who I was (I had a hat even)!
Spirit week also created this little number. Crazy Day, where I literally just did whatever to my face and wardrobe that I thought of. My students were terrified of my makeup for only the first few minutes that they saw me. One student said that I would have only been scarier if I had come to school dressed up like the Joker.
The biggest faux pas of the day: wearing socks with sandals.
Last but not least, Spirit Day and a parade brought Spirit Week to a close! This was actually a nice reprieve from the rest of the week because we got to wear jeans and dress normally! Hallelujah!
So far, I have loved every second of student teaching! Even the sores have been somewhat manageable. I can't wait to see how the rest of the year goes!
Also, if you ever want to know a little something about Canada, hit me up! I've got more than enough information about that bad boy to share!
