Fine Fancy; Piano

1:50:00 PM

Many of you may not know this, but I've been trying to teach myself piano. Key word trying.
It's been an uphill battle and therefore, I've made you this little movie of me trying to play Part of Your World from "The Little Mermaid".

I learned how to read notes when I played the violin (it too, went a little something like the above video but I was able to blame that on my instructor, Jason) and decided a long time ago I wanted to learn how to play the piano. I thought it would be easier since I haven't forgotten how to read notes, but it's a lot more difficult trying to read them when you've got 2 different lines! Half of the time I'm not even sure what I am playing, really. But I'm learning!

I bought myself a cheap little $30 keyboard and have been merrily clacking away at the keys. Clacking because there is nothing graceful about how I play right now...
So far, I'm not very pleased with the twangy-sounding keyboard, but I figured $30 wouldn't be an absolute waste if I decided that I was dreadful at piano and decided to stop trying (again, see violin).

Linda, my mother-in-law has been a huge cheerleader for me. She's bought me all of the sheet music I own! She also has a very lovely piano in her dinning room and graciously allows me to play it despite the horribleness I produce giving her headaches.

Maybe I'll keep Tylenol in business or something - always looking at the bright side!
- Alex

Thanks for stopping by!
