First Day Back in School!
11:27:00 PM
Aren't we too cute! I had to do the "First Day of School" mugs, one because of my new camera, and two because I doubt Mitch and I will ever be this skinny, classy, or excited for school again! Haha
(Also, don't our tan walls look so great!?)
I am so excited for school to start. Seriously. So. EXCITED.
My first day back was like Heaven on Earth. I love having a schedule and actually being forced to follow it. My sweet husband and I do a lot better staying on top of things when we are waking up early, staying awake for the entire day, and keeping our priorities straight. With the huge 6 month break, it was so easy for us to be like, "Oh, we'll get to that tomorrow... I just want to watch this entire season of Parks and Rec on Netflix in 3 days." While we did finish the entire first four seasons, we didn't really get our house clean, regularly do the dishes or cook, and we most certainly didn't hold ourselves to any sort of bedtime or wake-up time.
My schedule this semester will be a little hectic. I have classes starting from 7:45 and going until around 10:00 - 11:00 each day. Then I have my office hours at the apartment complex, 11:00 - 3:00, and if I'm extra lucky, I also work at Melaleuca from 3:00 - 9:00 or 11:00. My day is pretty jam-packed with... crap! I'm also taking quite a few online classes so I can keep my work hours straight, but it seems that, being the first day, I already have around 20 assignments due this week just for online classes.
Mitch on the other hand isn't working, other than the maintenance side of the apartments, but his classes are so much harder and draining. He is seriously my hero for pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree, especially when math doesn't come to him naturally. In our future, I can foresee many late night homework binges and study groups. Mitch really loves his major, and he is good at what he does, but I'm nervous to see if it's all stuck with him the past 6 months.
We learned that Mitch might have to defer next semester due to his National Guard obligations. Sadly, they are changing their 3 week summer training dates, and the new dates fall directly in the last 3 weeks of spring semester, including finals week. This means that he will either have to skip school from April to December or he will have to change tracks or disregard his obligations to the military. We are still trying to figure out what's best for our little family unit, but who knows! Either way it feels like Mitch is going to be in school (and the military!) forever.
I am an Elementary Education major and I am so stoked for my major-based classes. I'm taking a science class where we learn how to teach science in a classroom when science is no longer a top priority. We are going to be learning and doing quick 20 minute labs that we can then take to any classroom and fill in 20 minutes with the necessary science portion without distracting from the National requirements for Math, Reading, and Writing. I think I'm going to like this class, especially because I was always a sucker for science in school. Tomorrow, I'll find out what my other major-based classes are like, but I think I am going to enjoy it as well. It is a 'Motivation and Management' class. Mitch is, of course, in classes with names that don't make any sense in English or in math, but he really liked his first day back!
