Year of Yultitde, Week of Wonders, Day of Dreams

Today is my husband and I's ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY!!!

I have been married to my hunk for an entire year and it has been a blast! To commemorate our anniversary, I've decided to take a week and blog about things from our engagement, marriage, etc.

But for today, I wanted to share what my Anniversary was like!

This morning I woke up to a beautiful bouquet of roses! My husband must have an awesome hiding spot somewhere in our house because I have no clue where he kept them overnight!
You might be seeing that gorgeous little black box and wondering why I haven't gotten to that point yet. I've actually owned the ring inside of it since August. My sweetheart wanted to get my wedding bands for our 1 year anniversary but that would mean a trip down to Boise during one of the most chaotic times of the year. My sweetheart and I decided to buy my wedding bands in August when we were already in Boise for my sister's wedding rather than going all the way back down to not only buy the bands but then to make another trip down to get the ring back. We decided we would get it done while we were already in Boise, but still decided that it would be my gift for our One Year Anniversary. Mitch had a great time teasing me that he was going to hide my ring for the 4 or so months before our anniversary which would have devastated me.
My husband had drill this morning so I actually got to sit down by myself  and smell each of my roses one by one as well as spin my gorgeous ring between my fingers. It was beautiful sitting down in the quiet for an hour or so just reflecting on my sweet marriage and my even sweeter husband. While I wish I could sit forever just smelling red roses and reflecting on my husband, being in his presence is just a tiiiiiny bit better (:
He came home from drill to pick me up and take me to an army Christmas party.
For my One Year Anniversary, my sweetheart and I were actually able to go eat a Christmas Dinner at the very place where we held our reception one year ago!!!

Us in front of that same wooden door exactly one year later.

I wish that I had an excuse to take a picture in front of this door every year for ever, but I am also looking forward to leaving Rexburg sometime (; We were able to eat at our reception site as part of the Military Christmas Dinner. I was excited to see many familiar faces that had been at our Reception as well! Our reception site is absolutely stunning. I would recommend everyone get married there, but then again, I also sort of just want it to be mine. Mitch and I got to eat a great meal and reminisce about our wedding day. I was so tempted to ask the person that owns the building if we could have access to the brides room and the grooms room, but I thought that would probably be stepping out of line.

After the dinner, Mitch and I made plans to go to Idaho Falls to celebrate our marriage with our wonderful families. We had also saved the top tier of our cake and it just so happened to still be in my parent's freezer. Either way, we were wanting to be with everyone that helped us along the way, so we set off.

When we arrived in Idaho Falls, our parents were at church and Mitch decided that it had been far too long since he drove a tractor. He made up any excuse he could, saying that the driveways needed to be plowed and that a shovel was just too slow. I stayed inside eating popcorn and watching a movie while he fared the cold and shoveled everyone's driveways with a tractor. It really made him so excited, but there was no way I was going out into the freezing -2 degree air in only a skirt and tights.

When he got back in, we spent some time with each of our families. Mitch's dad got us a very thoughtful gift which I wasn't expecting at all. I've come to realize that Mitch's dad's love language is most definitely quality time and gift giving.

This is a Navajo Wedding Vase - the two spouts symbolize the two individuals, while the handle connecting the tops of the two spouts represents the union of the two. They are traditionally made and given to the couple by the grooms parents, and the bride is supposed to drink from one spout, turn the vessel, and give it to the groom who drinks from the other. It was incredibly sweet and thoughtful that he bought us this, especially when we weren't expecting any gifts from anyone. I admittedly teared up a little bit on the drive home because it was such a sweet and thoughtful gift. Mitch served his mission on the Navajo Reservation and has really come to love that culture. he was extremely excited for this, mentioning that now we have enough Navajo artifacts that we should make a display in our home.

After we visited with Mitch's family, it was time to eat our top tier of cake! I was most nervous for this part of the anniversary - mainly because getting food poisoned by your own wedding cake might otherwise be known as a bad omen. Surprisingly, our cake was still as delicious and moist as it was on our wedding day. I'm taking that as a good sign (;

Our cake on our wedding day. The bottom tier was chocolate, middle was red velvet, top was vanilla.

Our cake today. the frosting on the outside got smashed throughout the year, but it still looked great! The frosting wasn't moldy, the cake wasn't soggy, and it all held together over the year perfectly. Let's hope that is a metaphor for my marriage!

I wanted some pictures of us holding our cake before we actually dove in to eat it. My sweet husband is obsessed with frosting - he will eat it on a spoon straight from the can - so I shouldn't be surprised that he took a bite of the frosting when he got the chance!

He apparently didn't get the memo that we were going to feed each other. He's a stinker, but hey, he loves cake. Who can really blame him?

I had my little sister take pictures of us. Mitch hates it when people take pictures of themselves kissing. This is the "Put that camera down!" sequence.

We were surprised one last time with a final gift. Mitch and I are not pregnant, but we have already chosen a name for our first boy. It's Mason Craig Holt. Our sisters, Abbi and Ciara, feel that it is time for them to be aunts and that we pretty much need to cater to their every whim since they are "the reason we got together in the first place!" They decided to use our anniversary as a special reminder.

It is a "Mason" jar cup. They thought they were so clever. It's pretty cute, but I don't know if it was enough to get the hubby to start giving me some babies! I'm so excited for babies and children. I'd have babies right now if I could. But I guess this marriage is sort of a teamwork thing and so I have to get Mitch on the same page. He's kind of being a stinker about it, but with a few more hints from the girls, I'm sure we'll get there someday!

And this is a run-down of what we did for our special anniversary. No fancy meals, no fancy presents. Just us spending time with the people who have loved and supported us most. It was exactly what I wanted it to be. I have loved the past year being with my husband. It's the happiest I've ever been, the healthiest I've ever been mentally and physically, and the best version of myself I've ever been. Who knew a year of undying love was the best medicine?

Thanks for stopping by!
