Fine Fancy: Reading

10:16:00 AM

I'm not going to lie. I have the library of a 13 year old boy... and a 59 year old grandpa. I enjoy fantasy books and dark, horror, mystery, detective-y books. And on the odd occasion, I absolutely enjoy books made for 14 year old girls.

This week a many marvelous thing happened.
I read 5 books.

And not just any books, the Confessions of Georgia Nicolson.

Don't let the titles scare you away. These books are absolutely hilarious! I don't think I've ever laughed as much as I had this week while I read these books. And the best part of it was the fact that I was so hooked, I read 5 straight. These books are a diary-entry format, and they just so happen to be the diaries of a 14 year old drama-queen who lives in England.

If you enjoy the verbal prowess of Juno, awkward 'Coming of Age' stories, as well as the hilariosity of teenage romances, I would recommend this book in a heartbeat.

“As she left my room I knew I should shut up. But you know when you should shut up because you really should just shut up...but you keep on and on anyway? Well, I had that.”
“He said, "Hi, gorgeous," which I think is nice. I admire honesty.”
“What in the name of Hitler's panties and matching bra set was she talking about?”
“When girls walk home we put on lippy and makeup. We chat. Sometimes we pretend to be hunchbacks. But that is it. Perfectly normal behavior.”

I seriously couldn't put them down and I've already started the next book! It's like a chore sitting here writing this when I could be reading more about the Sex God and Masimo, as well as all of the fiasco's that cut and bite from my teenage experience. Except for they now bite with laughter. It's like I'm re-living all of those horrid experiences I had in middle school and high school that were absolutely awkward - so awkward, I didn't even dare journal about them! And the best part of re-living them is I can now laugh at all of the ridiculosity of the whole thing!

Because I love reading so much, I've been on the hunt for places to buy books on the cheap seeing as I'm a poor college student. I think I found one-

Thrift Books mission is to recycle used books and keep them out of landfills. "Spend Less. Read More" is their motto. And I am definitely with them on both of those things. I ordered 15 books from them on Saturday, and so far 12 have come. For 15 books, most of which are best-sellers and prize-winners, I paid less than $50!

Thrift Books does an amazing package deal; if you buy multiple books from the same warehouse, you get 50 cents off of every book. There is free shipping across the U.S. and most books are under $4.00, meaning that with the 50 cents off, you could potentially get a hard-cover best selling book for as little as $3.50!

Using Angus, Thongs, and Full Frontal Snogging as an example, there are over 19 books available and several different locations you can buy them from.

While these books are used, you can choose the condition you would like to purchase. Like New, Very Good, Good, and Acceptable are the varying degrees of damage to each book. Of the 15 books I ordered, the one in the worst condition was The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan and it was given a "Good" on the damage scale. To see what qualifies as good, take a look at the only damage to my new book!

Just some creases on the front cover and a small tear on the back. There is no writing on any of the pages. The pages are all there, the binding is solid. If anything, the pages are a bit ruffled and not as pressed as a brand new book, but I got this one for only $3.19!

I would definitely recommend them - especially if there is a book you've already read but are dying to add to your collection of "read-agains!"

Thanks for stopping by!
