Easter

Today was this handsome little guy's first Easter Egg hunt all by himself! He was so excited, it was adorable!
With Henry's autism, we weren't really ever quite sure what he would be able to do. There was always a hope that he would grow up, live on his own, and get married, but we were never quite sure. It sounds so funny saying this, but seeing Henry go on his first Easter egg hunt alone was a milestone that reminded me of all the other feats he will accomplish someday. Watching this crazy kid run around in his tight little cut off shorts was absolutely adorable, but also very hopeful.
Maybe it was just the fact that it was Easter, but this Sunday, I saw Henry going places. He is so smart and capable! It was nice to have that reaffirmation in the most unexpected of ways. I sure do love this little man.
Henry was so excited for all of the candy and for the "Neaster Bunny!" He didn't really comprehend the idea of opening all of his eggs though. He opened one egg up after we told him to, and he shouted for joy that there was a snickers inside, but didn't make the connection that there would be candy in his other eggs too. He didn't open any more eggs while we were there. That's one funny thing about Henry. When I think about my childhood, my cousins and I would all do this great, big Easter egg hunt at my Grandma Sherry's house. It was hysteria, followed by more hysteria as we greedily opened every single egg and pridefully told everyone what was inside. Then, we would all sneak up into the attic and gamble our findings with a deck of cards and a 12 year old's understanding of Poker. (I apologize to my grandma if she reads this!)

During our weekend out, we also visited Mitch's family for Easter. I got to spend a lot of time with Mitch's sisters and his mother on Saturday. It was nice just going out and relaxing with them. I forget how much I adore Linda's company. Usually when we visit, everyone is going at a hundred miles an hour and Linda is the busiest out of all of us. It was nice to see her out of "mom mode" and into shopper, cuisine-ist mode! I love my mother-in-law like crazy!
I also enjoyed getting to spend more time with the girls. It's always an adventure when you are with Ciara. She is the spunkiest girl I know and isn't afraid to tell you exactly what she is thinking. Ashlyn is always just a sweetheart, but a shopaholic. I've never seen someone with such deep levels of buyers remorse! She will spend all of her money at one store and then at the next will be so sad that she bought something. It's very funny to see, especially when I have to mentally think through every purchase I make.
The Easter Bunny was very good to me this year! It's like he knows exactly what my husband thinks I need (; He brought me some new Motorbiking boots and a book on the Atonement, which I am really looking forward to reading. I sure do love that Easter Bunny!
We ended the night with a huge bonfire in the middle of the neighborhood. Is it sacriligious to burn your dead, dry Christmas tree on Easter Sunday night??? I feel like there's got to be some sort of symbolism in that, but none of us really realized it because everyone loves fire...
Happy Easter 2014!
